The Lagos State Universal Basic Education Board on Thursday, 2nd December 2021, celebrated retired Public Primary School Teachers at LASUBEB multi-purpose hall, Maryland, Ikeja. At the event which had in attendance various education stakeholders, the Executive Chairman, Hon. Wahab Alawiye-King disclosed that the maiden celebration of teachers' last day in office is to acknowledge the invaluable contributions of outgoing educators in the growth and development of our future leaders and the state in general.
While celebrating them, he extolled their efforts in promoting basic education in the state during their period in service. He commended the teachers for the resilience, support, and care exhibited during the unusual situation that the pandemic foisted on education.
He thereafter charged educators in service not to rest on their oars, but to continue to work efficiently and effectively, to adequately harness the state's investment in the education sector.
Alawiye-King appreciated Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu for approving the event and seeing to the welfare of all teaching and non-teaching staff in the state. He assured that the occasion will be commemorated annually.
Mrs. Rhoda Ayinde, a recently retired Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Establishments, Training, and Pensions urged the retirees to take charge of their finances, noting that they should focus on their needs and not wants. She also advised them to pay more attention to their health and live a restful spiritual life.
The Board presented a gift to the immediate past NUT Chairman, Comrade Adedoyin Adeshina, and other retirees.
